Michael Carrick says the apology from referees' bosses for the VAR blunder over Erling Haaland's goal in the Manchester derby 'doesn't mean an awful lot'. Howard Webb‚ the head of Pro Ref‚ admitted the error after Haaland's winner for Manchester City at Old Trafford last weekend was allowed to stand‚ even though his teammate Enzo Fernandez was in an offside position and clearly interfering with play.

Refs' boss Howard Webb says that those involved in the Manchester Derby blunder were 'really disappointed' with the 'highly unfortunate' error - and has revealed that a furious United have been provided with the full transcript behind the botched VAR call which cost them the game. Despite being flagged for offside on the field‚ City forward Erling Haaland's 60th minute strike was called in for review‚ with ref Michael Oliver subsequently ordered to overturn the original decision and incorrectly allow what would turn out to be the only goal of the game. Replays showed that while Haaland was onside‚ City team-mate Enzo Fernandez - who was clearly interfering with play - was not.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden was sent off in the Manchester derby in stunning fashion after kicking out at Bruno Fernandes. Old Trafford came alive in the first half-hour when Foden tussled with Manchester United's captain‚ with referee Michael Oliver adjudging that the England midfielder had violently kicked out. Replays suggested Fernandes had kicked Foden while on the floor‚ and Foden responded by extending his legs into the stomach of Fernandes‚ and was given his marching orders.

Manchester United are facing another protest - this time from its neighbours. Fans disgruntled with the club's ownership are planning to march to Old Trafford ahead of the weekend's Manchester derby. And it appears that United is also on a collision course with local residents over plans to introduce a first-ever fanzone at its iconic stadium.

Michael Carrick admits that having two days less than Manchester City to prepare for Sunday's Old Trafford derby isn't 'ideal' for Manchester United. While City opened their Champions League campaign with a win in Porto on Tuesday night‚ United face Sabah of Azerbaijan at Old Trafford in a one-off Thursday slot. It has given Enzo Maresca more time to work with his squad before the 199th Manchester derby this weekend‚ and Carrick has no choice but to accept the situation.
