EXCLUSIVE BY MIKE KEEGAN: Daily Mail Sport understands Old Trafford officials have been left furious at what they believe is 'yet another VAR blunder' which has cost their Champions League chasing side. Amid extraordinary scenes‚ forward Amad Diallo appeared to be wrestled to the ground with no attempt to play the ball inside the area with the visitors leading 1-0.
Michael Carrick admitted he was 'baffled' by the decision to not award Manchester United a penalty after Amad Diallo was felled in the box‚ while captain Bruno Fernandes vented his spleen over his 'frustration' that team-mate Harry Maguire had been handed a red card for a similar incident. Moments after referee Stuart Attwell had opted not to pause play amid Amad's protestations late on in the clash with Bournemouth on the south coast‚ Maguire pulled down Evanilson in his own penalty area‚ in a move which saw the England international sent off. Bournemouth were duly awarded a spot kick‚ which Junior Kroupi coolly despatched to level the score at 2-2.
The Red Devils made it two wins from two under Michael Carrick at the Emirates on Sunday‚ winning 3-2 against the Premier League leaders‚ with Amad playing 88 minutes of the game on the right wing. Arsenal's attacking problems have been laid bare in recent times. Though they have scored 42 goals in the league this season - the second-highest behind Manchester City - individually‚ attacking players are struggling to produce.
Manchester United have lost Bryan Mbeumo‚ Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui to the Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off on Sunday and runs until January 18. United are widely believed to have prioritised a defensive midfielder amid uncertainty over the futures of Casemiro‚ Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo at Old Trafford.
CHRIS WHEELER: Manchester United's winning run under Ruben Amorim came to a halt at Nottingham Forest‚ but at least Amad Diallo's superb late volley was enough to earn a point at the City Ground. It means that Amorim reaches his first anniversary as head coach with 10 points from the last four games‚ creating some much-needed momentum after a difficult start to the season. Daily Mail Sport assesses some of the key issues from United's 2-2 draw with Forest as Amorim embarks on his second year in charge at Old Trafford.
CHRIS WHEELER AT THE CITY GROUND: Ruben Amorim's first year as Manchester United head coach started as it began‚ with a point away from home. Amad Diallo set up the first goal of the Portuguese boss' reign for Marcus Rashford at Ipswich last November. Here at the City Ground‚ the little Ivorian came up with a stunning late equaliser to keep United's momentum going even though their three-match winning run is at an end. It looked like new Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche would inflict a defeat on Amorim and claim his first Premier League win in charge after his side led courtesy of a quick one-two early in the second half by Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicola Savona.
