Spence and Micky van de Ven stole the headlines when they blanked Frank‚ refusing his handshake and leaving him alone on the turf. A worrying sign‚ as Oliver Holt has written. Now‚ an expert lip-reader has told the Daily Mail what Spence said as he vented at his boss and damaged the team's image of unity.
Tottenham squad verdict of Thomas Frank reveals one concern amid ‘desperation' for transfer priority
Joao Pedro's smart finish inside the penalty box was enough to earn Chelsea a comfortable 1-0 win over Tottenham in north London on Saturday - and the only regret Enzo Maresca's side will have is that the didn't pile on more misery for Spurs. A convincing performance‚ led by the tenacity and rigour of Moises Caicedo in midfield‚ saw Chelsea dismantle Thomas Frank's side with ease and leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the satisfaction of climbing level on points with their London rivals in the Premier League table. Meanwhile‚ it was a torrid afternoon for Tottenham‚ who were booed off the pitch by their own fans after a disjointed and lacklustre display on home soil.
KIERAN GILL AT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM: Thomas Frank admitted he was 'massively hurt' to have managed Tottenham's lowest-ever expected-goals total in a Premier League game‚ adding he understood why his own players in Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven gave him the cold shoulder after full-time. Spurs' xG of 0.05 was the worst recorded by Spurs since the metric entered football in 2012. They were booed by their own supporters at the end of this loss to Chelsea‚ with Frank conceding he '100 per cent' understood their outpouring of frustration. Frank performed his usual post-match lap of appreciation to applaud those supporters left in the stadium‚ but Spence and Van de Ven ignored their manager when he tried speaking with them. Spence in particular appeared to wave his arms in disgust as they approached the tunnel.
Xavi Simons hit a new low when he was brought on and later substituted by Thomas Frank during Tottenham's Premier League clash with Chelsea. Simons‚ who joined Spurs for £52 million this summer‚ began the match on the bench against their London rivals. He replaced Lucas Bergvall after the Swede sustained a head injury in the opening minutes‚ coming on as a concussion substitute.
Frank Ilett‚ who is known on social media as The United Strand‚ began the challenge last October as a way to 'spread some humour' amid a difficult period for the club. His journey has seen the fan gain significant fame‚ with Ilett now having 585‚000 followers on Instagram. United have won three matches in a row‚ beating Sunderland ‚ Liverpool ‚ and Brighton ‚ and could make it five if they get the better of Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in their next two matches.
Senne Lammens says he wants to be a Manchester United goalkeeping great like Peter Schmeichel‚ and joked about the fact the Danish legend didn't know who he was following a £21.7million move from Royal Antwerp. United fans sang 'Are you Schmeichel in disguise?' when Lammens made his debut against Sunderland at Old Trafford earlier this month‚ and the young Belgian has won his first three games between the posts. However‚ Schmeichel admitted he hadn't heard of Lammens‚ and claimed that United should have signed Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez instead or competed with Manchester City for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
