Declan Rice is the new big name among a five-man England exodus - days after Thomas Tuchel warned his players of a need to 'step up' to prove their worth after the World Cup. Rice‚ Cole Palmer‚ Kobbie Mainoo‚ Marcus Rashford and Tino Livramento have all now pulled out of Tuchel's squad - with Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and James Garner of Everton the only replacements. Arsenal midfielder Rice played the full 90 minutes of their defeat by Brighton on Saturday but has been declared unavailable for England.
Graeme Souness has insisted Kobbie Mainoo 'doesn't know his position' as he outlined why he believes Thomas Tuchel refused to turn to the Man United midfielder during England's World Cup semi-final exit to Argentina. Tuchel has faced significant criticism over his defensive substitutions in England's 2-1 defeat by Argentina in Atlanta. England had taken the lead via Anthony Gordon but succumbed after a series of game-changing defensive substitutions saw the initiative handed over to their opponents‚ who progressed to the final thanks to goals from Enzo Fernandez and a stoppage-time winner from Lautaro Martinez.
Manchester United fans have taken to social media to highlight Kobbie Mainoo's lack of involvement at the World Cup by sharing a series of light-hearted memes. Mainoo is one of just six players in England's 26-man squad who have yet to feature‚ despite Thomas Tuchel rotating his team across the Three Lions' three group games. Dan Burn‚ Ivan Toney and Trevoh Chalobah - who was a late call-up to the squad after Tino Livramento was ruled out through injury - are the only other outfield players yet to have game time.

CHRIS WHEELER: Of more concern to Carrick will be how much United missed the midfielder at the Stadium of Light. They missed his experience and poise in midfield‚ and they missed his goal threat. It meant Kobbie Mainoo having a more defensive role in the midfield pivot‚ and Mason Mount playing deeper alongside him‚ and it didn't suit either man.
Roy Keane and Gary Neville don't see eye-to-eye on much these days. Ask them about Manchester United‚ Michael Carrick‚ Kobbie Mainoo‚ or Ruben Amorim - pick your poison and the legends will find something to clash over. But the duo have finally found common ground and that's in naming which Premier League club is the most screwed for next season.
