United's Premier League season got off to a nightmare start as goals from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy - both stemming from set-pieces - put them to the sword in Yorkshire. Carrick was interviewed afterwards by Viaplay broadcaster Jan Age Fjortoft‚ the Norwegian who played for Swindon‚ Middlesbrough ‚ Sheffield United‚ and Barnsley in the 1990s.

Alan Shearer has taken aim at Manchester United following their 'dreadful' performance at Hull City ‚ with the Match of the Day pundit accusing Michael Carrick's side of lacking fitness. The Red Devils wilted at newly-promoted Hull on Saturday‚ with goals from Semi Ajeyi and Nobel Mendy handing the newcomers a 2-0 victory. The manner of United's defeat has caused alarm among supporters and pundits‚ with Shearer offering a withering verdict on the BBC's flagship football show on Saturday night.

NATHAN SALT AT THE MKM STADIUM: Manchester United's new season optimism was extinguished across a bruising 90 minutes in which newly-promoted Hull City ran out deserved 2-0 winners. Hull City have been widely predicted to go straight back down to the Championship‚ but they did a job on Michael Carrick's United side here‚ who never looked at it from the first minute. Goals from centre backs Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy separated the sides but by the final whistle there was no dispute on who the better team was.
