Gianni Infantino's hopes of surviving as FIFA president have been boosted after four Asian nations publicly backed him following the abolition of divisive plans to sell stakes in the World Cup. UEFA partnered with the North‚ Central America and Caribbean confederation (CONCACAF) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to force Infantino to drop plans to sell a £3.1billion stake in the World Cup to private investors. UEFA and CONCACAF have since called on Infantino to quit - but their ploy to depose the Swiss football administrator has hit a roadblock after Kuwait‚ Qatar‚ Sri Lanka and Lebanon reiterated their confidence in his leadership.

Graeme Souness has revealed that he is trapped in Abu Dhabi amid Iranian strikes‚ with the Liverpool legend sharing an update on social media detailing the 'loud bangs' he heard overhead. Chaos has sparked throughout the Gulf since Saturday morning‚ with United Arab Emirates states Dubai and Abu Dhabi‚ as well as Saudi Arabia‚ Bahrain‚ Qatar and Kuwait‚ targeted. Caught up in the deadly unfolding aggression between Iran and the United States‚ who launched a joint daylight strike with Israel in the early hours of the day are thousands of expats and holidaymakers in the region.
