MIKE KEEGAN: Talks are ongoing over a deal that could value the club at £5bn - although whether an agreement can be struck remains to be seen. It is understood that discussions have been taking place on and off for the last two
years amid differences in strategy between the two
American groups who joined forces to buy the club in a forced sale from
Roman Abramovich for £2.5bn with a further commitment of a £1.75bn investment in 2022. While Clearlake owns 61.5 per cent‚ it shares joint control with
Boehly‚ who is close to the end of a five-
year term as chairman. Next May‚ that role will switch to Clearlake.
