When Cristiano Ronaldo was asked about his future in football in 2023‚ as a 38-year-old having not long started his venture at Al Nassr‚ he revealed his plan to one day become the owner of a football club. 'I don't rule out becoming a club owner‚' Ronaldo said. 'It's something I thought about a few years back. I probably would like to own a [football] club. I'm at the end of my career‚ two to three years maximum.' It's now been three years. On Thursday morning‚ Ronaldo's roadmap to retirement has become clearer‚ and he has done exactly what he said he would do. Ronaldo's ownership dream has come to fruition: he has purchased a 25 per cent stake in Spanish second-division side UD Almeria through his CR7 Sports Investments company.

The original Sky Sports News line-up reunited this week to mark presenter Clare Tomlinson's departure from the network after almost three decades. Tomlinson‚ 58‚ was one of the legendary presenters to feature in Sky Sports News' original line-up‚ alongside the likes of Dave Clark‚ Carrie Frais‚ Kelly Dalglish (Cates)‚ Julian Waters and Mike Wedderburn when the programme launched in 1998. She was joined by past and present Sky Sports News staff at the celebration on Monday night‚ although a few former colleagues such as Wedderburn and Rhodri Williams were unable to attend.

Gary Neville has urged Manchester United to not appoint Michael Carrick as their long-term manager‚ insisting that they should go for the best available candidate instead. Carrick has been in the role as Red Devils head coach since January‚ when Ruben Amorim was sacked‚ with his contract expiring at the end of the season. Since his arrival in the Old Trafford dugout‚ United have won five of their six Premier League matches and drawing the other to see them propel up the table to fourth - and just three points behind Aston Villa in third.

Benjamin Sesko's super sub role continued with aplomb here as he came off the bench to secure all three points for Manchester United at Everton. The Slovenian's second half goal means that Michael Carrick's unbeaten run as coach‚ since coming in to replace Ruben Amorim‚ stretches to six games‚ with five wins and a draw. Everton did plenty of good work in this less-than-thrilling 1-0 defeat but David Moyes was let down by his side's lack of creativity in attack.

OLIVER HOLT AT HILL DICKINSON STADIUM: The resurrection of Manchester United under Michael Carrick continued on a damp‚ dank Monday evening on the banks of the Mersey when his club found a way to conquer new ground in enemy territory. United's scrappy‚ gutsy‚ hard-fought 1-0 victory was their fifth win in six games since Carrick took charge of the club and lifted them above Chelsea into fourth place in the Premier League. They are now only three points behind Aston Villa‚ who are third. It was United's first appearance at Everton's magnificent new Hill Dickinson Stadium and they did not waste any time breaking their duck here. It felt for a long time as if the match was drifting towards a draw but United ended that impression with a brilliant second-half break-away goal.

Wolves have taken aim at Arsenal's time-wasting tactics during their 2-2 draw at Molinuex‚ brutally mocking them with a series of cut-together clips on social media. In a major twist in this season's title race on Wednesday night‚ the Gunners threw away three points despite having a two-goal lead thanks to a dramatic 94th-minute strike from Tom Edozie that bounced off Riccardo Calafiori on its way in. It is the second Premier League game in a row that Mikel Arteta's men have drawn‚ meaning Manchester City will go within two points of the pacesetters should they beat Newcastle on Saturday. Prior to the last-gasp equaliser from the teenage debutant‚ Edozie‚ Arsenal were seemingly slowing down the game in a bid to secure an important victory in the title race.

With frustrations clearly rife in the Arsenal camp as they tried - and failed - to rescue the three points in the dying embers of the game‚ Jesus hit out at the Wolves centre-back. No sooner had Paul Tierney blown his whistle to signal full-time of the enthralling tie had Mosquera gone down in a heap‚ sparking a huge scuffle on the Molineux pitch between both sets of players.

Gary Lineker has called out Thomas Tuchel for making a 'distinctly odd' mistake with his previous criticisms of Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold. The England head coach has not held back since his appointment to the Three Lions set-up in 2024‚ Tuchel at times pulling no punches with his honesty about the prospects of particular stars. In May of last year‚ it was the then-Liverpool defender who caught his attention‚ with Tuchel keen to stress that unless Alexander-Arnold burnished his defensive credentials at right back‚ he was unlikely to be named to his preferred starting XI.

NATHAN SALT: Despite being on the wrong end of multiple game-changing decisions‚ Newcastle United still managed to navigate their way past Aston Villa to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup. But the story of the night was not Sandro Tonali's brace but the decision-making of Kavanagh and his linesmen‚ specifically the decision to award a free-kick after Lucas Digne committed handball more than three yards inside the penalty area.

MATT BARLOW AT THE GTECH COMMUNITY STADIUM: Eberechi Eze will always have the glorious hat-trick against Tottenham. And he will not complain if he adds to his medal collection at the end of the season‚ but his dream move to Arsenal has fallen off script. Eze has not scored a goal since clinching his place in north London folklore with those three against Spurs in November and‚ here on what was his first Premier League start in almost two months‚ he was entirely anonymous and hauled off at half-time. It is becoming an unwanted trend. On his previous league start he lasted only 57 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers. And in the one before that‚ at Aston Villa‚ he did not make it past the interval.
